Within the framework of The Seventh Museum, Georgina Starr, for her part, created
her own imaginary museum. For the occasion, she chose the painting Apelles
painting Campaspe, by Willem van Haecht (1593-1637) which is part of the Mauritshuis
collection. The canvas portrays the ordered chaos of a collection on display.
She spent two weeks in a pension in The Hague during which time she assembled
all sorts of found objects and arranged them in her room. She photographed the
displayed and arranged objects as a whole, as well as shooting them separately.
She then indexed, grouped and systemized her biographical collection into nine
different groups which have to do with states of mind, such as loneliness, happiness
or fantasy. She mapped out its structure in a schematic drawing and put it on the
program of a cd-Rom. Via the computer's touchscreen, the visitor of her imaginary
museum can gain access to her personal collection and even hear music and sound
effects that are part of it. The personal is thus made public.
Georgina Starr lives and works in London, Great Brittain.
